What
is a home raised puppy?
Many puppy breeders say that their puppies are "home raised" but what exactly
does that term mean?
For starters, a home raised puppy also referred to as a "kitchen raised" is
one who was brought up and lived inside the breeders home - not in an outside
kennel, in the garage or in a barn or shed.
Buying a puppy from a breeder who raised their puppies in the home means that
you are probably getting a better socialized puppy.
Here is why:
- Home raised puppies spend the majority of their time in the breeders
home and are exposed to the entire goings on of a household. They are fully
integrated into the family. This helps socialize the puppy to all the
sights, sounds, smells and objects that they will likely encounter when you
take your puppy home. Desert Bloom puppies go a step further with taking the
pups into my grooming salon daily they also get exposed to traveling in a
crate in the car, getting professionally groomed weekly so they have
excellent grooming manners, meeting all the human and animal clients that
come into the salon daily. They are held, played with and exposed to a much
broader spectrum of stimuli then most puppies.
- Because they are consistently under foot, home raised puppies get more
attention and touch from the breeder helping the pups become accustomed to
human interaction. A puppy sequestered away in the garage may not get as
much face time with humans. This face time is essential to creating a well
adjusted adult dog.
- The puppies come into contact with children. Since I do not have any
small children left at home, my salon offers the puppies the perfect place
to interact with children of all ages. Many of the neighborhood families
bring the kids in to help socialize the puppies and also teach their
children how to properly handle the pups, it's a dual learning experience.
- When a breeder raises their dogs in the home , it means that they are
dedicated and devoted to breeding and raising a great quality dog and are
not just out to make money.
