Mini Cockers are what we breed for. However there can be no guarantee that our pups won't grow to standard sized cockers. A standard sized cocker is around 15 inches tall and around 30lbs. To date we have only had two puppies grow to that standard size. Most of our pups range in height from 11 to 14 inches and 12 to 25lbs.

We welcome you to contact us for a list of of prior Desert Bloom puppy parents, so you can talk to actual owners of the puppies we breed. There is no better way to get information than from families that own puppies from us.

We Never have tea cup or micro mini cocker spaniels. We feel that it defeats the purpose of the breed to create a cocker spaniel that small. Our puppies are generally shorter than the standard. That's it. We prefer them a little smaller, but not frail or weak. We want healthy dogs with healthy bones, hearts, joints, eyes and hips. Our coats are lush and thick, and do require frequent grooming.

We breed for chocolate, black, black and tan, merle, parti, red, buff, silver, sable and roan colored pups. We never know what colors our girls will give us so just watch our nursery and sign up on our updates page for our birth announcements for all the details on the new litters.

I prefer to keep the puppies with me until they are at least 10 weeks old, have both puppy shots and their Microchip Id implanted prior to leaving to go to their forever homes. Socialization is imperative in the early stages of puppy growth and this is why I prefer to hold on to them a little longer.

We do offer shipping through out the United States, however I much prefer if you pick your puppy up in person. We can always meet you at the Phoenix Airport with your new baby or you can come to our home or salon to scoop up your new love. This is far less stressful on the puppy since you are flying back home with it. If we do ship a puppy, it can not be done until they are at LEAST 10 weeks old. We prefer NOT to air ship in the summer months due to heat restrictions. Shipping fee's are $300.00 and up depending on where in the US and how (air or ground transport) we ship your puppy, that includes a health certificate, new airline crate and their air / travel ticket. WE DO OFFER PERSONALIZED DELIVERY EITHER IN STATE OR OUT. Your shipping/delivery costs will depend on if we are flying to an airport in your state or driving your puppy to you with in our state.

We always welcome your questions and love to speak to potential puppy owners via telephone so please don't hesitate to call on us. Please enjoy our website and let us know if you have any comments or questions by emailing or calling us!

Mini Cocker Spaniels

As the originator of the "Mini Cocker Spaniel" breed, we know that there can be no size guarantee. Both the parents are small, come from smaller cocker stock and fit our standard for a Mini Cocker. However when you are working with genetics, you may get some puppies that are a throwback genetically to the standard sized American Cocker Spaniel.  We register all our Mini pups as Mini's since they carry the Mini gene. Thus far we have had some pups that fall under the AKC's standard size, but in the smaller end of the scale. All Mini Cockers are registered through DRA.

Breed Profile:

Country of origin: United States

Original Use: Sporting dog, companion

Color:

Black Variety--Solid color black to include black with tan points. The black should be jet; shadings of brown or liver in the coat are allowable. Also  white markings on the face, body and legs are allowable.

Any Solid Color Other than Black (ASCOB)--Any solid color other than black, ranging from lightest cream to darkest red, including brown and brown with tan points. The color shall be of a uniform shade, but lighter color of the feathering is permissible. Also  white markings on the face, body and legs are allowable.

Parti-Color Variety--Two or more solid, well broken colors, one of which must be white; black and white, red and white (the red may range from lightest cream to darkest red), brown and white, and roans, to include any such color combination with tan points. It is preferable that the tan markings be located in the same pattern as for the tan points in the Black and ASCOB varieties. Roans are classified as Roan-colors and may be of any of the usual roaning patterns. Merles are classified as Merle-Colors and may be any of the usual merle patters. Sables are classified as Sable-Colored and may be the usual sable patterns.

Tan Points--The color of the tan may be from the lightest cream to the darkest red and is restricted to ten percent (10%) or less of the color of the specimen.. In the case of tan points in the Black or ASCOB variety, the markings shall be located as follows:

1)  A clear tan spot over each eye;
2)  On the sides of the muzzle and on the cheeks;
3)  On the underside of the ears;
4)  On feet and/or legs;
5)  Under the tail;
6)  On the chest

Coat: On the head, short and fine; on the body, medium length, with enough undercoating to give protection. The ears, chest, abdomen and legs are well feathered, but not so excessively as to hide the Mini Cocker Spaniel's true lines and movement or affect his appearance and function as a moderately coated sporting dog. The texture is most important. The coat is silky, flat or slightly wavy and of a texture which permits easy care.

Grooming: Grooming is an essential part of owning a Mini Cocker Spaniel. They must be brushed daily (if in full coat) or if kept in a short puppy clip they must be brushed frequently. Professional grooming is part of the Mini Cockers care. They must be groomed once a month to maintain a healthy coat and appearance. Please see our grooming page for more information.

Height and Weight: 10-13 inches tall and 12 to 25lbs in weight.

Personality: Affectionate, people oriented, eager to please, playful and silly. Shy, nervous, or aggressive are NOT traits of the breed.

Trainability: Moderate to High, see our training page for more information.

Activity Level: Moderate, they should not be hyper active or overly excitable. They are a sporting dog and there is a  need for exercise and mental stimulation. They are amazing retrievers and love to hunt and fetch for toys or participate in canine sports.

Known health problems: Otitis Media  (ear infections) , Skin allergies, Cherry eye ( a weak muscle under the second eye lid)

Good with children: Yes excellent with children when properly socialized and trained. Children should always be supervised as to not allow them to tease, torment or hurt the dog in any way.

Good with other pets: Yes, Mini cockers thrive with other dogs as pack members. They must be taught not to chase cats and other small pets as they do have a high hunt drive.

Over all your Mini Cocker Spaniel should be merry, jolly, fun loving and a joy to own.
